QUEEN OF THE SIRENS
All waves seemed to come to a stop
as the creature climbed up and out of her body.
Her bones protruding out of her skin,
trying desperately to escape.
I could taste the sea coming off her.
Green and coarse, scaly skin.
Her eyes and flesh alike,
so pale I felt the moonlight bounce off her
and reflected against the rocks.
Her hair was all but made of shells, pure
weeds, coral, and foam.
I was bewildered by her extraterrestrial beauty,
hypnotized by her closeness—
the stench of death,
with the voice of a god.
