Unavoidable Enemy
You’re my kryptonite,
the cross I have to bear.
Unlike Jesus, however, I’m not strong enough to carry you.
I would rather brave an Alaskan winter
with nothing but a pair of hand-me-down shorts,
than wear you on a singular, hot summer day.
I would suffocate
before melting into a boiling puddle.
One day though, the time will come when I must wear you.
Like a patient assassin, you sit in my closet,
waiting to strangle me when the time is ripe.
For when my supply of shorts depletes
you will strike.
