Our Childhood Dream

In the land of broken streets and murky seas,

We were the innocent seals,

Splashing around in floods and clapping our hands together.

How naive we were, praying our bandaged heads would soon fill with cognizance in place of dancing fish.

Our oblivion led us on the path of disregard for our fake world of deep blue,

Washing away our troubles in our subconscious need for repression.

Maybe one day we’ll come back,

And this time we’ll stay.

The author's comments:

This poem is about childhood innocence and the dream of wishing you were an adult when you were little instead of enjoying the utopia you and your friends created. It talks about how when the utopia goes away after forcing yourself to grow up, you start missing your childhood and living with regret for taking everything for granted. This poem also goes over feelings of homesickness and trying to find a connection back to your childhood. For me, it's personally the ocean (which is why there are so many metaphors involving the ocean.)
