Lonely Sleep
Pulling back the curtains,
Streams of light fill the room.
Fingers run across a surface,
A dusty bunny hops away.
Soon this room,
Once filled with noise,
Shall fall silent;
Sleeping ‘till someone makes,
A single sound.
A laugh,
A song,
A word,
A cry,
A sound to keep the room alive.
Although, for now,
The room lies still.
The only movement,
A single tear,
Staining the muddy carpet,
Shoes once destroyed.
No longer will those steps,
Clomp across the floor.
No bags and jackets in a heap,
No longer will you have to leap,
To get in through the dented door.
Soon this room,
Once filled with light,
Shall become,
Dark as night.
Asleep until someone makes,
A spark,
A flame,
A soft small light.
Someone please,
I beg of you,
Come into this room.
Shine the light,
Make the sound,
Bring the room to life.
It waits for you,
To wake it from,
Its lonely sleep.
Its dark and silent,
Lonely sleep.
