NYC
Inside the small modern coffee shop,
the casement windows frame the busy streets of NYC.
The soothing rain makes a thin,
glossy layer on the concrete.
The blaring lights and car horns,
the stampedes heading to work.
Continuing their daily routine,
as I sit and sip my coffee,
admiring the world around me.
The looping billboards light up my face.
“Hot on Broadway,”
“Sophora,”
“Hit new tv show available now on HBO.”
Street dancers.
Street performers,
Trying to make their dreams and reality,
one.
Their faces shined when crowds gathered around,
cheering them on and filling their hats.
A city is a place of light,
the place for dreams,
the place for creativity.
A place that I long for.
A place where friends unite.
A place of opportunity.
A place where I am.
This was an English assignment in my creative writing class. I was proud of it so I decided to publish it.
