Heir of Grief
I am the Heir of Grief.
Grief is all I inherit from my parents;
not my fate, my hair, my body,
Grief, and all it entails.
I live, and am immediately consumed in the mourning of it all.
I survive, faced with a constant reminder,
even from such a young age:
Everything I know can constantly, instantly, be ripped away, painfully, in sickness and in health.
I grow, and at every turn I lose someone, something,
The Heir of Grief stepping into the role, only to lose that too,
Because Grief is all I have become.
