Golden Opportunities.. Only for Some
do you ever see someone get a golden opportunity?
a chance for them to be happy, to have immunity.
you truly want the absolute best for them,
but you can’t help but feel jelous; you also want to start over again
this opportunity the person has is what you’ve always wanted,
you tell them “I’m so excited for you!” half-hearted.
you mean it, you do,
but you have to suck it up and smile through
they all know this opportunity is your dream,
it sort of feels like something mean.
you know they didn’t mean it that way,
but you don’t have a say.
just smile; what you’ve always done,
so you don’t have a chance to come undone.
don’t let them know what you’re feeling,
“you’re so self centered, just start unfeeling!”
I just want to be happy, too..
but it’s all true, the last shot I had I blew..
why should I get another when much worse things have happened to them?
but oh.. I miss it so much.. I’d do anything to go back again
I shouldn’t get to go because I had my chance,
it’s not like I have a choice anyways, because of finance
my world is changing so rapidly at my feet,
it’s like I can’t even sit down and take a seat.
“oh boo hoo, spoiled entitled rich kid,”
that sounds more truthful than I’d like to admit..
that golden opportunity will never be mine,
not as long as the stars in the sky shine.

I wrote this poem a while back- thinking that I'd never get the opportunity of a life time. I'm proud to say that today, I did get that golden opportunity, and I'm not throwing it away!
