I Walked On
a step forward
upon the unpaved gravel road
murky puddles
picking my way
through the newly emerged
a pothole here
a tree trunk there
under a canopy of ivies
entwining with overgrown trees
and messy undergrowth
I walked on
under the shadow and barriers.
passing, sometimes with ease;
other times, not.
still, I walked on.
crunch, crunch, the gravel bits
whispered among themselves -
about the human
that trod on upon them:
"He walks on! He walks on!"
