Summer
I’ve always loved summer,
it’s never been a bummer.
I get to spend all day outside,
using the streetlights as my guide.
No matter the weather,
I can do whatever!
I can spend all day in a tree,
free from any responsibility!
I can go swimming in the pool,
and I don’t have to worry about school!
At night, I can go chase fireflies,
it’s great exercise!
After I put my fireflies into a jar,
I get some grass, for them to munch on.
they are a great light source,
oh, I just love the outdoors!
In the outdoors,
there are no chores!
you’re free to do whatever,
as long as you’re home by dinner!
the only thing you have to worry about,
is thinking that you should’ve been a Girl Scout!
they know how to set up tents and tie knots,
and I’m sure they can make slingshots!
Mom gave me a tent, so I could sleep outside,
but I didn’t know it would take this many tries!
I might just scrap mom’s tent plan,
since I’m kind of in a jam.
After a minute of thinking,
the lightbulb in my head starts blinking!
I can sleep under the stars,
with the soothing sound of crickets and cars!
all I need is my fireflies and sleeping bag,
because there’s nothing to unpack!
when you camp in your backyard,
it’s much better than practicing flashcards!

Very much getting nostalgic vibes from this one! All of your poems are lovely to read.
I wrote this summer from the perspective of younger me. Being outside, especially during summer, is one of my favorite things to do. There are just endless possibilities! I wanted to write from a different point of view, so I chose a poem about a young girl who loves summer.
