Dear COVID-19,

you’ve changed us all

marked in history textbooks

before the end of fall

The children are stuck at home

learning through their computers

struggling to find connection

through the wifi routers

The parents are losing jobs

draining their savings

unable to provide

for their children’s cravings

The elderly are becoming sick

stuck in the bedsheets

while the cries down the hall

stay on repeat

We must all remember

that we’re in this together

and that life has to crumble

before it gets better

Normalcy is all we want

realizing we didn't appreciate what we had

until it was gone

New rules came out

ignored by the masses

“what’s quarantine” they asked

while handing in the boarding passes

We’re stuck in a drought

drying up over time

begging to wear a mask

before it all blacks out

Do it for the kids, the parents, the elderly

we all want sanity

fighting is the only choice we got

to bring back humanity.

The author's comments:

Everyone is struggling in some shape or form during this pandemic. But, we are in it together. Most likely, anything that you have gone through or are going through someone else is in it with you. We need to rely on each other more than we ever have before to overcome this pandemic. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
