Phoenix Rissing
As the tree grows
So will I.
Yet unlike the tree
Who will rot and fade away.
I will pick myself back up
And carry on my day.
One day the tree will be a friend
Who I will greet with open arms.
In a special place
Among the twinkling stars.
Flowing like a river
I tend to lose my course.
Then I learn to swim upstream
Despite that invisible force.
Fighting towards the end
I see a light ahead.
Pushing with all my might
I finally comprehend.
For the voice is not gone
Only left for a while.
He's an old friend
Who I'll see after the final mile
I love the music of the birds
that sing in the early morn.
It reminds me every day
of those that have been torn.
For I have been there too
every day a different shade of blue.
Yet like a phoenix I will rise
And soar above them all.
The tree
The river
And the birds
Will be gone forever more.

I wrote this peice for my english class to describe my personal anthem. The theme I chose was being ready to move on from the past. There are things in my past that have been highly taumatic for me as im sure everyone has things in their past that feel the same way. This peom became an output for my emotions and has helped me realize that moving on is easier than it seems. What started out as a fun school project has now become a sort of therapy. Poetry is now one of my favorite things to write and it is primarily due to this poem.
