RIP: the planet
I’m afraid
But not of death
I’m afraid what will come after
I’m not afraid
To take my last breath
I hope it will be peaceful
And under the shade
Of an oak tree
I will fade
Into the ground
I’m not afraid
To become the flowers
I’m afraid of what comes after
When the men come
They chop down the oak tree
And proceed to mourn the loss of shade
But the next day
They’ll get paid
My flowers die under their heel,
I’m afraid
For the day when the earth
Chokes on its own breath
I’m not afraid to die under the oak
I’m afraid of what comes next
I’m afraid of the smoke
