Afterlife
In Underland
one’s mind, body, and spirit
is altered to a moment in time
when inner magic glowed at its
brightest.
For one last time the traveler
can interact with that
moment.
To savor it
forever.
To her, this moment was
when she met her match.
The only one who ever
understood her.
The only one who ever
knew her.
The only one who ever
cared for her.
Together they explored Underland
in their own magical ways.
Dancing on stars and
flying to the moon,
their Underland trajectory was
An unyielding path.
But Underland has a time limit.
All good things always
come to an end.
Her match’s hand dropped
from hers
and reached for the light.
If only she had seen death’s hand
reaching back, maybe
things would be different.
Their years together
cut unexpectedly short
and the past vanished
in an instant- too young, too blind.
As the graphic glimpses of reality
sank into her mind,
the magic started
silently slipping from her soul
and she disappeared from Underland
forever.
I wrote this piece to describe the feeling of missing someone you lost. In this piece, the person who lost a part of them can travel to a place where they get to spend one last moment with their loss and get the closure they feel they need.
