What are you afraid of,

Old Man?

Is it my passion, my beliefs, my ideas?

You would say you aren’t afraid

Of a little girl with big ideas but

When you show me your anger,

You reveal to me your fear

When you remember when you were young,

Old Man,

Do you really remember?

Do you remember the hope and the fear and the yearning

To be listened to

To be understood

Do you remember wanting to change the world?

It isn’t about me at all,

Old Man

You’re just afraid of losing your power

In a world you wrecked.

You’re afraid of a future you aren’t part of

You’re afraid of being forgotten

We will forget you,

Old Man.

The only utterance of your name

Will be with scorn

As we mock the decisions you made

And the ones you were too afraid to make.

When we have your power,

We will make those choices

We will fix the world you cowards wrecked

Do not be afraid,

Old Man

In your place,

We will do Nothing

and Everything

You wouldn’t do
