Smiles
September 26, 2019
All our tears
Fall,
Fast, slow, loud,
Silent,
They burn our
Eyes,
They stain our
Skin,
Seawater from our broken
Hearts,
Hiding behind fervid
Smiles.

I wrote this after being inspired by a song called "Little Girl" by Faith Marie. I find that my friends suppress their sadness and emotions because they feel like if everyone else is happy they should be as well. I find that very few people express emotions good and bad when they feel them. They think it's bad to show that you are human and aren't perfect. They find shame in feeling sad when others do not seem to be. I wrote this poem to show that everyone is the same, but not everyone shows it. We just have to look beyond the glittering smiles and the life-is-nothing-but-rainbows facade. It's okay to show people you have emotions.
