I know a woman who is strong and beautiful,

Her hair is the color of the fire in her eyes,

Her smile has a heavenly glow,

And her voice is the sound of saccharine music,

She comforts people in their darkest moments,

Because she knows how it is to feel utterly alone,

She is kind to everyone despite how they treat her,

Because she knows that everyone deserves respect,

She puts her children's happiness before her own,

Because her parents never did,

She loves her spouse despite his flaws,

Because she knows that no one is perfect,

She is grateful for everything that she has,

Because she knows that no matter what, it’s something,

This woman raised me,

And for that, I am the luckiest girl alive.

This piece came from a moment when my mother had showed me what it is to put someone before myself, and to do so to support and hold together life.  I saw her strength and love in this moment and it amazed me.  I started this poem by describing my mom's bright red hair and ended up going into how big of a heart she has from the life she has led.  My mother is by far my number one supporter and loves me no matter what.  I hope to become like her someday.
