Too Late
You sometimes see her
The quiet shy girl in the corner
Who sometimes looks your way
You don’t really notice
How much she adores you
How her mind never leaves you
In fact, you don’t really notice her
She’s nice and pretty, you suppose
But she never speaks up
Not like you do
They say opposites attract,
But you figure that isn’t true
Besides, you like assertive girls
Who say what they believe
And smile and wink at you
Or…you thought you did
Until you saw her with him
Sharing a secret, silent joke
That made your heart heavy
Although you didn’t know why
You didn’t like her, did you?
Maybe you did,
But maybe you didn’t
Maybe you loved her
It brought you comfort to see her
Every day in homeroom
Occasionally gazing at you
It’s too late now
They’re happy together
You can’t break that up
So for her, you stay away
You pretend to be into some other girl
But in your heart, you know
You could have had her
But you couldn’t speak up
When it mattered the most
You see, my friend,
Neither of you won
But only you lost
