When I Fall Asleep
Darkness
I begin to drift
Slowly
Then all at once
Into a fortress of madness
More ancient than scripture
More open than the Red Sea
Reckless daggers of papyrus
Cut through moss covered stone
Singing doves
Fly gracefully through amber skies
Iron thrones grow taller with each head lost to the blade
The chaos of the velvet underbrush tickles my feet
As I gaze ahead at emerald statues of Grecian gods
Mystics speak soft, hushed lullabies in my ear
Inertia compels me to continue
Into the vortex of time
Caught between one second and the next
The gypsy of heaven whispers to me
“This odyssey has just begun”
