The Tortuous Art of Revision
Tell me,
what does it mean
to love writing?
Is it to shatter her house of cards
so that you may build a mansion
or to call her a hideous mole rat
despite your lack of vision?
Is it to admire her slender figure
so you can find ways
to cut
and break,
or to pinch your fingers
around her delicate petals
to squeeze out vitamin A?
No, I love my writing
so I’ll lock her away
in my sooty closet
and bury the key
but I am a writer
so I’ll open it again
on good day.
