Darkness
That pure, unabated darkness
Tones of purple and wavering navy that dance along each cousin’s edge
With an exhale, weave beneath my skin
Shoot needles of cerulean into my bones
Until my blood is ice, and true pain is forgotten
Absolute zero.
This darkness is a blanket
That descends on me in swaths
Layer after layer
Of philosophizing moss
Mixture of the heart
Black licorice cocoon
Oh lord please don’t tell me
Morning might come soon
This darkness is a comfort
In its dancing rainbow lines
Streaks of synesthesia crop up among the chords
Invisible melodies, drowned by invisible hordes
Smoke murmurs into evening, time its timely lord
Ashes shall return to ashes
And dust return to dust
Darkness is the one true mother
Of every one of us
