The Mathematician
With every step she takes a calculation
And though she hears their whispers
That she always plays alone
She knows better
Her toys are algebra and geometry and calculus
And her playmates Euclid and Pythagoras
In her notebook she sketches
Digits and variables and symbols and wordless sentences
The fruits of what many consider toil
Are but artwork to her
