From the path I have paved
I am from the driveway, the path where I played,
three siblings fighting like a war,
no one wanting to lose.
I am from the hoop I scored on,
the hill I sled on,
the yard I played on.
I am from the competitiveness that drove me through the lane,
the commitment that flew off jumps and zoomed down hills,
the creativeness that put together games.
I am from the school where I learned to achieve my goals,
where I learned to lead my teams,
like a gardener tending his crops.
I am from the friendships I built,
a rollercoaster of loops and steep drops,
friendships made with perseverance, avoiding any obstacles in its path.
I am from the experiences I lived through,
from breaking my nose during a baseball game,
to being in a hurricane that witnessed death and destruction.
I am from the driveway, the path where I played,
the path I have paved,
in order to win the battle.
