Gargantuan lady, hiding behind these tiny walls you’ve built.

Are you afraid of being seen, of letting them know

That you are different?

Are you worried they will chuckle and smirk

At your eight foot figure?

Do not fear, humanity is never as

Evil as it sometimes may seem.

The strong man becomes a blacksmith,

The light one a cheerleader.

Why then, can you not join in the life they get to lead?

Why is the large lady worse than the small man?

Were you born here, in this shack

Ill fitting for the length of your legs?

Or were you driven here by cruel children’s jokes

Or surreptitious glances from your neighbors?

I’d like to tell you they have gotten smarter as they aged;

Alas, I cannot lie. But perhaps your skin has thickened?

Come out, now, you’re better than them;

Don’t you know why they drove you away?

Fear. Those evil ones, when you were young,

Did you think that they were special because they were ordinary?

No, as I say, fear is all that truly matters,

Fear of bigger, fear of better, fear of difference

Makes you a target.

You don’t have to be.
Now, come on, no more coaxing,

We both know these walls are too small to keep

You barricaded.

Do not fear, just come out, I am here,

I won’t hurt you, they can’t touch you,

Because you are bigger, you are better,

You are something, they are not.
