when you are different
Sometimes I feel like a kid
who was left with all the adults
and I don’t belong there.
They only tolerate me when I’m quiet
like a child.
Unintelligible noise
is all they hear.
Unremarkable,
unrelateable
is all I am –
and if the biting in my belly
is not proof enough
of the pain of my predicament
and if when the air dropped out of my chest
I was not breathless,
wordless,
silent and waiting for someone who understood –
tell me what I was,
what I am.
Who I am?
please tell me that I can tell you anything
