What is past is past -- it is the present and the future that concern us.
- Hiawatha, founder of the Iroquois Confederacy

Darkness

In lurks in the words that I scrawl

It knocks me down when I once stood tall

It is found in the depths of my soul

Allowing me little control

Oh darkness, you fill my mind

You cloud my edges until I am blind

You gnaw at me with no mercy

Leaving a trail of misery

Sorrow

It escapes in the words that I scrawl

It cuts more than flesh as I fall

It is found in the hollowness of my voice

It’s not my fault I don’t have a choice

Oh sorrow, you crowd my heart

You force all else to depart

You claw at me with no mercy

Leaving a trail of misery

Pain

It hides behind the words that I scrawl

The wounds it leaves are more than physical

It is found in the weight on my shoulders

It always endures

Oh pain, you scar my essence

Supposedly you bring life lessons

You tear at me with no mercy

Leaving a trail of misery

Loneliness

It is the reason for the words that I scrawl

It is the only thing with me throughout it all

It is found in my guarded eyes

I am certain it will be my demise

Oh loneliness, my old friend

With me until the end

You rip me to pieces with no mercy

Leaving a trail of misery
