Samuel Used To
Samuel:
You used to
run around
in your boxers
covered in mud.
You used to
bounce a
soccer ball
and throw it
at my balcony.
You used to
steal
pots and pans
with
leftover spinach
that you didn’t
want to eat
and pretend you were
a rock star.
You used to
swing your
shirt around,
revealing your
pale chest.
You used to
sit on the tree
by St. Peters street
and sing
I will always love you
with your brows
wrinkled together
when i walk by.
You used to
relax
around me and
talk about the people of
Provence, France.
Your people.
You used to
speak French.
So now
I speak French,
too.

This piece is a memory from my childhood crush about a boy that lived across from me in fifth grade. I remember him as if we are still friends today, but we haven't seen each other ever since we both moved away (at the end of fifth grade).
