Fools Gold
You were golden
Catching my eye from the start
You obtained a display of pureness
You stood beside me,
You cared about me,
You valued me,
You even loved me.. I thought
But, reality hit
The performance was over
You became my immense breathing nightmare
No mistake,
You recognized what you were executing
Your true colors finally set free
That wanting glimmer in your eyes
Was only ever a reflection of mine
Turns out, I fell for
Fools gold.

My inspiration to write this piece was from a hard relationship i went through with an ex-boyfriend. I learned that people can only put on a performance for so long until their true colors come out. I feel like everybody has some sort of experience or connection with this in life, whether it would be with a family member, a friend, a coworker, a boyfriend/girlfriend.
