Carry Your Load
Slender legs
hustle along
my lopsided driveway.
Crumb in tow,
you haul it home.
Your black,
satin body
glitters
in the morning’s
humid heat.
My yard is your world.
You need only
dirt for your home.
But, you don’t quit or slog
and continue to lug your load.
You are one gear
in your family’s
powerhouse.
Why can’t we
be content with so little
and work hard
for a better world?
I can envision a nation
of ant-like will,
where each of us,
regardless of origin,
rich or poor,
carries a load.
Will you, reader, bear yours?
