Seasonal Happiness
Trick or treaters approach my house
And race to the bucket on my porch reading,
“Take one please.”
I observe in my soft recliner,
a witness to small children
Lit up with joy as they snatch
handfuls of Dum-Dums and
Skittles.
The smell of Mom’s chili
Uninvitedly dashes through
The kitchen and into my airways.
The rough crunch of Smarties is a
Rude awakening to my teeth,
But kind gesture to my taste buds,
Distracting the chili aroma from my mind.
Joy is contagious,
And this day is full of it.
A day of escape, and happiness.
Halloween, you deserve the best.
