I’m from the mountains and the molehills,

Trekking trails

That prohibit the view

Of the dark sky.

I’m from the hammock,

Swinging me,

Flinging my body to another universe,

Another reality.

I’m from the long car rides

And late nights

Leaning on my brother’s shoulder

Closer than we’ve been in years.

I’m from the water

Where no one judges

The streams and the lakes

Cold against my pale skin

Pulling me under

Letting me drift away.

I’m from the chlorine

Which seeps straight into my complexion

And smooths over

All the cracks that threaten to

Explode.

I’m from getting lost

And being found

Seeing my mom from a distance

Welcoming me back to the only place

I ever want to be.
