The Popularity Charts of Life
I think it’s pathetic
That the silent treatment
Is our best approach problems.
I cannot stand
The way we deny
The Popularity Charts of Life.
I just about laugh,
And I just about cry,
Watching an opinion become important
Because of its source and not its merit.
Did a border wall become a possibility
Before a billionaire suggested it?
Did any issues matter before
Some college graduate pointed?
I wish a regular person got a say,
Because it doesn’t take a fancy degree
To see a problem.
All it takes is a person-
Just a single one.
A person that cares about our world
And notices its changing climate.
Not a genius- just a realist.
I don’t mean to shatter the glass, but really-
The charts matter.
A highly educated person
Has a louder voice
Than a high school dropout
With a bigger heart.
And yes, we can deny it,
But it will not change the truth:
Our world is a predatory chain
With the rich as the tiger,
Having total control.
We can flick off the light,
So that we don’t see it,
We can close our eyes
And never regret it
But please, don’t forget this-
The charts matter.
