Where I'm From
I’m from ice skating, volleyball, and softball practices.
I’m from playing catch with siblings
and catching frogs on the farm.
I’m from biking down the front road,
and milking cows.
I’m from the Beatles,
Chubby Checker, and Patty Page.
I’m from Shaun Cassidy
and Scott Baio.
I’m from Bionic Man and Brady Bunch;
from Gilligan’s Island and Partridge Family.
I’m from Nancy Drew,
super sleuth.
I’m from driving into town
with a quarter to buy Aero bars,
pop, and Old Dutch Chips,
from, “She blinded me with science!”
and, “You’re a space cadet!”
I’m from all of that
and more.
In ten years,
I’ll be in a lab,
or at a conference,
but I’ll keep
this time-traveling adventure with me.
I’ll remember who I am.
I’ll remember where I’m from.
I read a piece in the same style by George Ella Lyon, and my English teacher challenged me to try a piece simaler, but relating to my parents. I hope you enjoy the themes present about how our parents are part of who we are, and the techniques I used.
