Where I'm From
I am from a red brick white wooden two story house,
with the basic yard, driveway, patio that seems to be a theme in our neighborhood.
But that is not just where I am from.
I am from hours spent in musty gyms,
with reminders to hit the deadly bold black baseline.
From spending the summer running around to Indiana, Chicago, and Florida for games,
with my supportive parents cheering from sidelines, bleachers, and stands.
I am from 10:00 night runs to the nearest ice-cream restaurant,
with my friends blasting Taylor Swift's oldies,
From trying to spend every second with each other because how else could we survive?
with laughing and judging of rom-com movies.
I am from admiring cozy crackling fires brightening the dark starry nights in the woods,
with gooey marshmallows sticking to my hands.
From jet ski rides feeling the brisk, brilliant, blue water splash,
with ghost runner baseball that never seemed to end.
I am from a mom who doesn’t know the word lazy and can read my mind,
with Monday night Bachelor showings sitting next to my best friend.
From a dad who is my biggest supporter and best coach,
with the annual buzzer noises from the Bradley Center as the Bucks drain a three.
I am from a red brick white wooden two story house,
with the basic yard, driveway, patio that seems to be a theme in our neighborhood.
But that is not just where I am from.
