WE.ARE.ONE
Harley sits with his book alone during lunch, the table is full but he is alone. Even though he is reading in silence, he can hear the people around him talking. “Are you ok?” Caroline and Angela ask, he smiled and nodded at them. THE FIRST LIE.
Caroline gets home, siblings running back and forth with the dog, her dad working on the dining table, papers everywhere, he is telling the kids to stop for the sake of the dog. He smiles and says hi to Caroline, she smiles and waves back. She pretends that everything is ok. THE SECOND LIE.
At night Angela is sitting in the chair of her room doing her homework. A door slam, “oh no, is happening again.” she says putting her earbuds on, turning the music as loud as she could, but even with that she could still hear the yelling of her parents. Her mom opens the door and has red puffy eyes, she just sits on the bed. “Everything is going to be ok.” THE THIRD LIE.
I woke up by the sound of my alarm, my mom next to me, her cheeks have dried tears all over them. “Maybe today will be better…” THE LAST LIE
