An Ode to Nightmares
A dark memory that disturbs my sleep;
When I finally wake up, you make me want to weep;
Your cold, black tendrils wrap around my soul;
It’s no wonder you make me fear falling asleep.
I need something to pull me out of this hole;
Something to make me feel whole;
People tend to think this is some kind of joke;
But what would they think if they had to see their worst fears unfold?
Shrouded in mist and thick, black smoke;
Painful thoughts do you evoke;
You force me to relive unspeakable horrors;
On my own tears and screams do I choke.
But you will never win, not in one little way;
No longer will you make me wish it were day;
I’ve suffered your wrath for long enough;
Never again will I be your prey.
