Down the Rabbit Hole: A Case Study
Madness! Madness!
Lilting voice and puzzling eyes,
Burdened by gleeful sadness.
Tell she truth or tell she lies?
Is it insanity or a childish guise?
To this delusion she had clung.
Down the hole! Down the hole!
How hard, exactly, had her bell been rung?
A world inversed and not quite whole,
From her broken mind had sprung.
Tick-tock, Tick-tock.
Aces, diamonds, and spades.
Pointed fingers whirled round a timeless clock.
The King of Hearts declared he played no part,
in his Queen’s wicked games.
Off with your head! Off with your head!
Poor business for the hatter!
White! White!
That isn’t right!
Paint the roses red!
On the petals the paint was laid.
Tainted by the royal tirade,
The flowers began to wilt and fray.
Beauty thinning, color dimming,
Finally succumbing to the cruel crusade.
Pawns, Pawns.
Aren’t we all?
Knight, Bishop, and Rook.
Always bound to take the fall,
For the servitude we undertook.
House of Cards, House of Cards,
Similar to reality.
Paper-thin, Blow-in,
At the whim,
Of this life’s brutality.
Little Alice,
Peered in the magic looking glass.
Just to find,
A world more blind,
Than the one from which she passed.

I haven't written poetry since the seventh grade, so I decided to try my hand at it this afternoon. I hope you enjoy!
