Oskar Schindler
Hatred was brewing.
Hatred too great.
Hatred that would end many peoples fate.
This hatred killed many people both young and old.
This hatred killed those who are worth more than gold.
There is no real reason for these peoples death.
And yet these people paid with their last breath.
No horror could compete with what happened to them.
For they suffered some of the worst of evils.
Blasted, burned, gassed, and shot.
No mercy was shown to any in this lot.
This horror I talk about should be known by all.
For this horror was the holocaust and it cost us all.
It robbed us of hugs that could have been given.
It robbed us of love from loved ones put into prison.
One man knew this;
One man tried;
One man truly worked to save their lives.
This mans first name was Oskar and his last Schindler,
And this great man had defied Hitler.
He saved those that Hitler had condemned,
And put no limit on how much he would spend.
He bribed many and he bribed all,
so that he could save one more soul.
When all was over,
And all could flee.
Oskar Schindler wept for the ones not set free.
For all the lives Oskar did save,
It felt like nothing compared to the ones in the grave.
Twelve hundred crowded around and thanked him for what he gave,
But all he could think of was the one he didn't save.
