The Ballad of October Tenth
I walked up and down the street
It was a crisp autumn morning
There was no one up except for Pete
All he ever did was sit there mourning
For soon I would be like him
No more traditions with the whole family
The house would now seem all so dim
He always controlled the room so tamely
He was now leaving the pack
It all ended that tenth of October
When my dad would leave for that place called Iraq
It was a very sobering thought
