Dear Empathy, Dear Selfishness
Dear empathy,
Why would you cry?
Blessing others is a skill
So is making them smile
I’m taking the joy from my loved ones when I’m selfish
Give me your heart and I would take it
Share with me how it feels
To care so deeply,
and love so real.
Teach me your ways.
I’d do anything to be in your place.
Dear selfishness,
Why would you cry?
I’m nothing without making others smile.
I put their joy
Before my own
because without constant approval,
I don’t feel enough to be owned.
Share with me how it feels
To be less helpless, to say no
when I love those people so.
Teach me your ways.
I’d do anything to be in your place.
