"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." - Oscar Wilde

Clocks are strange at work for they move so slow

Time crawls by like an ancient withered sloth

The minutes pass as the sun goes down low

My long-awaited breaks seem eons off

It's almost ten; time for me to depart

I watch the seconds slowly melt away

Swarms of gaunt workers bleeding out their hearts

I punch my card and breach the grim archway

This somber city is ill-lit at night

These streets that I used to roam are now dead

This cold, slain town corrupted with foul blight

What once was cobblestone is now asphalt

The faces I see prowling I know not

Uncharted horrors that will haunt my soul forever

How I live with myself is the question

To survive one must always stay clever

I continue the swift walk to my home

I see a smiling face

A welcome sight amongst the steel and chrome

In the end, I was right

He pounced on me like a savage animal

Teeth ripping into my flesh

I told you this place was filled with monsters

Especially the ones you never expect

Our bodies will line the streets

A testament to our lifeless lives

Insects among the groundwork

Forever in death as in life
