I Remember...
I remember the day
my baby brother was born
I think of his smile and stocking hat,
and the little blue blanket he’d worn
I remember christmas day
the tree wrapped in red and gold
eating grandma’s almond cookies
and playing out in the cold
I remember packing up my suitcase
to travel far and wide
from chicago to the black hills
to the cool florida tide
I remember the operetta
waiting for the curtain to rise
my yellow fairy dress
and singing “you can fly!”
I remember the day of homecoming
and the Friday night lights
bundling up in red and blue
and watching our players fight
I remember just yesterday
getting done with basketball
leaning against the window
watching gentle snowflakes fall
