Boston Anne
Brought together by dead distance
I saw her for the first time
Red stained deep in her bones
I gave her wandering soul a home
Now, with light shining through the darkness
She is free to bury her skeletons
But fits of rage and fury
Still slip through the cracks of her mind
Others only see her red hot anger
But I know that beneath her cries
It is tainted trust and shattered hope
That is reflected in her eyes
So it is my promise to her
That she will always be safe with me
When her past comes back to haunt her present
And nightmares creep into her dreams
I will be there to hold her, hug her
Until her final whimper recedes
Because Boston Anne is so much more
Than what the world made her out to be

I wrote this piece about my dog Boston Anne. She was a stray that was in pretty bad shape when I found her on the side of the road. It took her a long time to trust anyone around her, but now she is happily a part of our family. The fits of anger I mention in the poem are her seizures and her bouts of memory loss. She can become quite aggressive when this happens, but when she recognizes her new reality around her, she is the sweetest dog, and my family is so thankful that God led her to us.
