Baking
A spoon’s stirring
Through my heart; yearning
To bake
A glassy measurement cup dotted
With black numbers allotted
As a tool
A baking rule
Whitened, powdery
Baking soda pours outwardly
Into the glassy cup
The curved edge dipping
Baking soda dripping
Into the vast gray bowl
As if covering a hole
With dirt
Streams of chocolate pour
Down; covering up some more
Of the bowl
My fingers, stickened with brown
Feel the masterpiece sown
From my hands
A blender sounds
Metallic blades swerving; mixing in deafening pounds
Of flaky oats; turning into flour
That’s never sour
Stirs and turning arouse
The bowl; attepting to keep up with the howls
Of clanging blender blades
The clanging soon fades
My hands open the oven
Its entrance soothes scents of heat
Into the baking sheet
Metal silver flattened
As if it were mattened
Like carpet
The time keeps track
Of how long the sheet stays in the oven rack
Thin, metal bars sliding
Like shifting traintracks gliding
Along a rock-infested path
DING! The diner beeps
A delicious aroma seeps
Throughout the kitchen
I grip the sides of the tray with my hands
Protected with oven mits; the tray soon lands
Over the stove; safe and not loud
With its landing; like landing on a cloud
Of snow
What’s inside this tray?
Cookies; gooey with peanut butter
Small like birds that flutter
What’s also inside? Scones!
A pumpkin-orange aroma it hones
Mini brownie bites remain crusted
With chocolate; as if rusted
I hope you enjoyed baking with me!
There will be lots more delicious treats to see!
