Trees
The willows sing of the past
Thousands of years
Their will comes last
In the fate of the fears
The fears sing of danger
With their shrill voices
Trying to change her
And make her joyless
The tress fight
To keep her alive
The shadows bite
Beginning to thrive
She screams in vain
Ready to give up
Her blood flowing with pain
The fears filling their cup
The willows stretch their limbs
In an attempt to save her
The cup brims
Her eyes start to blur
“No,” she says
“Not yet”
One shadow strays
She begins to regret
Her past floods her mind
Trying to set her free
Memories of her kind
Letting her see
She’s not useless,
As she once thought
The fears can be abusive
Their words like a gunshot
She tries to stand,
Her legs feel ripped apart
The shadows at hand
Like a dagger in her heart
But she pulls it out,
And blood begins to flow
The fears start to shout
Dissolving in the snow
She can finally smile,
After all these years
“It’s been awhile,
Since I killed my fears”
