Attention
I keep my phone by the window
Just in case you call,
But a message never comes my way
(No matter how much I think about you).
It is only when the night arrives and you are lonely
That you reach out to me.
And your drunk words are those I wish to hear from a sober mind,
But I don't want you to see how much I need you.
So I remind myself that I won't call this time,
Even when I leave the bar and go home alone,
(When I want to be wrapped in your embrace).
Instead I will move to a city
With watercolour streets,
Where no one knows my last name
And opportunity waits on every road.
People feed you philosophy
Not lies and small talk.
And when the city completes me, I will not be left wondering if your thoughts are of me.
I won't have to wonder if we are still ok,
And I'll never again fight for your attention.
