Red Grass
The grass smelled red. It wasn't actually red but it smelled red. Red like the smell of an apple pie. It smelled sweet and warm. It smelled like early autumn air. It smelled of freedom and open air. As the seasons changed the grass smelled of bitter blues and sour greens in the winter. The spring grass smelled of pretty pinks but pungent purples. When the summer grass came around it smelled of desert yellow. Just desert. But when the autumn grass was back, it smelled of apples again. Warm sweet caramel apples. It smelled like fresh homemade bread and more Apple pie. The grass smelled blue and green and purple and pink and yellow. But my favorite was when the grass smelled red.
