The Things You Don't Know
The flashing sign blinds me as I sit and think of you.
As I wait, I watch the world go dark with an underwhelming view.
And all my thoughts simmer and boil over in my head.
How can I compare this moment to the stories I have read?
The headlights strike, directed at me as I look at the scene around.
The panorama of lonely bodies move on without a sound.
All their emotions seem drained as they finish their 9 to 5.
I want to get to you but it's much too far to drive.
The streetlights flicker on and off, in the corner of my eye.
They lead me back to you, yet I do not quite know why.
And as I think, I still feel the heat from your hand on mine.
I wonder where you are right now as the warmth starts to decline.
The distant spotlight swerves me; in this town I am unknown.
Without you here to guide me, I feel unexplainably alone.
But every time I take a glance, I think I'll see you waiting.
You deserve more than the empty souls that the rest are overrating.
