Cigarettes
Darling, you always loved your cigarettes.
You knew I hated the taste of smoke on your tongue.
But you got lost in all your sadness and faded regrets,
You fell apart in the smallest ways,
In the beginning, you started calling me less.
You told me you were smoking a pack a day.
You always tried to convince me to smoke.
But darling, you knew I despised the smell.
The thought alone was enough to make me choke.
When I tried to rid you of your cigarettes, you flew into a rage.
You threw books and shattered plates.
I don't think I've ever been so afraid.
The day you hit me, was the day I knew.
You only had one demon.
And the demon was you.
