The apathy of my smaller sibling was striking.
So intense, that you would have thought I was
subjecting him to
Oppression.

My sibling was not one to be reckoned with.
He would not back down from a challenge
nor a fight.
His resemblance to his family is symmetrical.

He is unenthusiastic about things, unless there is challenge.
When challenge is apparent, he cannot stop,
unless he is beaten or wins, he lives by competition.

If he is beaten, he will not stand for it.
He will not stop until he wins.
His competitive spirit is extremely intense.
Do not challenge him, for you will not win.

He is a force, he does not change in the wind, as soil does.
He pushes against it. Through the small chunks of rock and soil,
to win. He is not one to be tested, for you will not make it out.
Not without being beaten.

I fear his competitiveness will be his downfall someday.
When a basketball game gets too emotional,
football too rough,
baseball too difficult.

And he will give up,
burnout,
not want to play,
give up on his dreams.

I am trying to show him how.
How I pushed through,
when in those rough moments
all you want to do is give up,

And you know, those last few yards must be the quickest,
or you will run it again.
So you must always give your hardest,
must always leave it all on the field, court, diamond.

Because once you leave that field, court, diamond,
you cannot change what happened on it.
For history cannot be changed.

Pain fades,
Glory doesn’t.
That’s the way I live my life
That’s how I want him to live his.

I’m hoping he learns from his brothers mistakes
I’ve sure made a lot.
From not trying my best to not trying at all.
