"To these the past hath its phantoms,
More real than solid earth;
And to these death does not mean decay,
But only another birth"
- Isabella Banks

Sometimes life hurts.
Sometimes it stings.

Sometimes it cries,
Sometimes it bleeds.

It wasn’t on purpose
When it cursed you to death

I would’ve bailed you
with my last breath

But the truth
Can’t be changed,

It’s not in its nature,
It isn’t arranged.

There’s no way to fix this,
No hope for repair.

The coffin is down,
Rain in the air.

If I would’ve known,
You’d still be here.

‘If’ is a wish,
and I’d disappear…

IF it meant you could live,
survive past this age,

Make it to broadway,
steal every stage.

IF it meant I could see you
smiling one last time.

Making up another one
of your silly old rhymes.

The blood in your cheeks,
not on your skin.

If IF was powerful,
I’d use it again.

But wishing won’t help,
it won’t bring you back.

It won’t stop
this grievous
attack.

You laid out the facts,
but I missed those too.

IF I hadn’t, you
wouldn’t be cut through.

I miss your laugh,
the light in your voice.

The way you stood up
when you made a choice.

I miss your stubbornness,
the way you smirked.

How your heart,
it always seemed
to work.

Until you were gone,
I didn’t know I was alive.

Because I died with you,
unable to survive.

I revolved around
your life source,

Like a planet stuck
in a permanent course.

Maybe I’m too honest,
but IF I had been a little earlier,

You would be with me.

I usually hold back a little when I write, but I just let go with this one. Sorry if it's a bit longer than most of my other poems, but it took that length to get it all out.

"When you need something to believe in, believe in yourself."
"A poem unwritten is only a thought; unshared, unsaid..."

Liv...this poem was absolutely and completely incredible and beautiful. It was just bursting with emotion...it was almost as if your words were infused with the tears and the heartbreak and the anguish and love that I'm sure you were feeling. I could go on with listing all the emotions I found in this poem...but that'd take a little too long ;) I also really loved your honesty; I loved how you didn't hold back, you just let your emotions and your thoughts run straight from you head and your heart, out through the pen and onto the paper. As a reader, I can definitely tell that you meant every single word of this poem, that it has a special place in your heart. And though these words may have exposed you to the world, that is okay. I think that's one of the things that poetry is for. It allows us to let go a little and widen the cracks in our walls, to let that emotion through in a healthy way. And reading your words has allowed me to see into your heart in a way that is not possible otherwise. It allows me to know you, the person you are deep inside. It allows me to know the personality that you express without meaning to. And that, Liv, to really open up...that takes courage, true courage. There aren't even words for me to express how beautiful and breath-taking this poem was...but thank you so much for posting it :) It really touched me.

To love is to be vulnerable; Triumph is born out of struggle; We notice shadows most when they stand alone in the midst of overwhelming light.

Oh, my. This is abolutely, beautiful and breath-taking. If you don't mind being honest, my heart ached as I read this and I was captured in your words and I had tears in my eyes. Your poem is absolutely, beautiful. So, hauntingly breath-taking, if that is alright to say and if that makes sense. You are such a wonderful and amazing and talented and beautiful person and writer, filled with such talent and greatness and light and beauty; and so, so much more. 'Tis true. ^_^ I'm so glad that I know you for you are amazing, and I am honored that I know you. ^_^ Thank you so much, Liv. my friend! for sharing this. Thank you so much, again. :)
